Truro’s closest thing to a shopping mall, the lovely Lemon Street Market, just got zhushed up and here are 5 very good reasons to visit.
It looks amazing!
The redecoration and re-fit of Lemon Street Market, one of Truro’s favourite shopping destinations is the collaborative brainchild of Fig Cafe and Illustrated Living. Between them, Kim, Jordan from Fig, Rosie, Chris from Illustrated Living and their teams have been hard at work transforming the upstairs into a modern, light and airy contemporary space. The sunlight streams through the skylights and the large picture windows at either end. Even on a cloudy day, the cafe and Gallery are filled with daylight and make the space a pleasure to be in.
The broadband is fast
Whoop-de-doo! The broadband is GOOD. Really GOOD. Kim understands that the new way of working is to hunker down with a decent coffee, good food on tap and get creative on your laptop. Believe it or not, you can download the sound of a coffee shop if you’re are working at home and need a bit of hubbub. Why do that when you can get the real thing! I’ve had numerous meetings and training sessions in the cafe already and because of the large number of tables, it’s possible to meet your team there too. Much nicer than a conference room.
The food and drink is delicious
Kim has owned popular cafe Fig for 5 years and the move upstairs means that more people can enjoy her passion for good, honest, fresh food. I’d just spent an hour training one of Truro’s retailers on Instagram and couldn’t wait to tuck into my dinner. Today I had a delicious fennel, butternut squash lasagne and salad and although I was sorely tempted, I resisted the home made cakes. If you can’t stay and enjoy upstairs, there’s always the same delicious food downstairs at Fig2Go – no need to go without – and that goes for the cakes too!
There’s a Gallery & Event Space
While Kim& team have been redecorating the Cafe end, Rosie and Chris’s team have been wielding their own paintbrushes at the Gallery end. They’ve completely refreshed the decor, renamed it the Atrium, and have been busy getting ready to open exhibitions. They started with a photography exhibition from Truro College and there’s also a plan to extend what they already offer in one of Truro’s favourite shops, Illustrated Living. The whole of the upstairs is available for events too – just chat with someone from Fig or Illustrated Living for further details.
Watch this space….
I’ve been helping out with all of that internetty-type-stuff including making videos and getting social on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Keep your eyes open, there’s a lot more planned up here – and it’s exciting for Truro!
Here are a couple of videos I made which will give you a good idea of why this space is so exciting for Truro.
