Cornwall’s High Sheriff’s triathlon will help Mental Health Charity

Jane Hartley is using her year in office as High Sheriff to make a real difference to those with Mental Health issues.  She’ll be hopping on her bike to cycle 88km, putting on her trainers to run 16km and donning her wetsuit to swim 2.5km.

The swim is this weekend to St. Mawes (we think – will confirm!)  However, you can follow her adventures on her twitter account here and donate on her Just Giving Page here.  You’ll see that this is being done under the auspices of fabulous local charity the Cornwall Community Foundation.

According to her twitter account a certain HRH who recently visited Cornwall has said he will participate too!

Go Jane – What a great cause!

Foodie news from Philleigh Way Cookery School

October 1st – Jams, Pickles and Preserves

Sarah Marsland of Cornish Meadow Preserves will be Pickler-in-Chief in this hands on course.  Kea Plum Jam, apple cheese, crab apple jelly are just some of the preserves that might be made on the day.  If you’re partial to a bit of blackberrying and you fancy dusting off the jam pan, this might be for you.

October 5th – Cupcakes for CoppaFeel

October is Breast Cancer awareness month and Philleigh Way are doing their bit by donating the proceeds of this Cupcake course to the charity CoppaFeel.  Charity founder Kris Hallenga noticed a lump in her breast aged 22 and was initially told by her doctor she was far too young to develop the disease, she now has Stage 4 cancer.  Along with her sister, they founded CoppaFeel to help educate women and raise awareness.  Tutor Christine Hawker will be guiding you through making and decorating cupcakes. Kris will get a photo of your creations and choose a winner!

26th October – Italian Cookery

If you this foccacia is fab, pasta is phenominal and tiramisu is terrific, then you’ll love this course.  Plus you get to cook a pizza in Philleigh Way’s own woodfired pizza oven.
