Summer Fashion is usually fun, a bit frivolous and boy do we need a bit of lightness at the moment. Travel with me in our SS17 Fashion Edit and immerse yourself in a selection of current trends and find out where you can purchase the items in Truro.
There are nods to pretty much every decade in the second half of the 20th century this season. Take your pick from 50’s to the 90s and you decide whether you are an Audrey or Jackie O, Diana or Kate.
Audrey would be very at home with the sheer choice of Breton Stripes this season. Every year, this trusty style is reproduced and re-invented. This wardrobe staple bridges the gap between casual and formal, and looks great with just about everything. Who said horizontal stripes weren’t flattering? I’d wager most women have a breton or two in the closet (I’m not telling you how many I have, just call me Imelda of the Stripey Tee)
Team it with jeans and a blazer and moccasins or espadrilles if you are going for the Full Riviera Monty.
I might be a ‘certain age’ but it doesn’t mean that I’m not partial to letting my inner Rock Chick out to party every now and again. Leather Biker Jackets are timeless and more than just a safe bet in our Spring climate. They’ll keep the chill out while looking classic and yet just a bit naughty. One like this will see you though season after season and a good quality leather will get better with age. Just like us.
Who remembers Ra-ra skirts. Well along with Bananarama, ruffles are back in a big way. On skirts, on dresses and shirts and even on shoes. And who remembers Lady Di, all ruffled up in a one shoulder evening gown. Well channel that, and you’re right on point this season. This great little Bellerose dress would look equally as good with your best shoes and jacket, as with trainers and a great big summer beach bag.
Some of us still have to look a bit smart in the warm weather and as much as we’d like to turn up to the office or a business meeting in our flip flops, it’s just not the done thing. At least trainers have made it to the ‘smart’ list – hurrah for that! In cases where you need to look the part and still want to be part of the fashion pack, this dress in Bishop Philpott is perfect as is the cover dress in Plum.
There we have it – a whole range of styles to choose from, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Why not take a stroll around the boutiques of Truro and see what you can find. I’ll get summer accessories feature out next week – if you’ve got some favourites in the Truro shops, let me know and we’ll feature them!
Let’s leave the last word to Banarama with stripes a-plenty and wish Keren , who lives pretty close by, all the best for their UK tour!
