Time rushes by doesn’t it. It hardly seems a year ago since our SS15 Edit when we were looking for the perfect white dress and getting our heads around Sportsluxe. Well its time to see what’s trending on Planet Fashion and, more importantly, where you can pick up said items in our great little city. The end of June is always a good time to pick up a bargain too, as the shops are starting to think about Autumn/Winter (noooooooo!)
There’s a huge industry out there somewhere which forecast trends and tells us what in or out (no I’m not talking about the Referendum). These fashion ‘hunter/gatherers’ scour the internet and look for inspiration in art, science and travel so they can predict what we’ll be wearing in the next few seasons. I must admit, I’m a little disappointed. I’ve always liked to imagine Anna Wintour and Karl Largerfield sitting in the Dog and Duck with a fag and a pint deciding whether breton stripes will be thick or thin next year and exactly which part of the anatomy will be the star of the show (side-boob or ankle?).
The Cold Shoulder
This year’s body part de jour is…..drum roll.….the shoulder. Hmm, OK my fashionista sisters, I know you’ve got to push the envelope, but a shoulder? Really?
There are loads of ways you can show off your deltoids without looking like you’re about to dance the flamenco. I’ve been looking at this Rabens Saloner top for weeks in Plum Boutique and wishing I had the sort of figure where I could throw it over a teensy bikini and then swoosh and sway at a beach party. Reader, I haven’t got anything like *that* sort of figure. But you may have and this soft suede top might be the answer to your perfect festival wardrobe.
And let’s be honest it, shoulder beats side-boob anyday.
The Slip Dress
Yes, we saw this coming last year in the return of the 90s. Think Kate Moss popping over to Sadie Frost’s house for a cup of sugar in Primrose Hill still wearing her party dress from the night before. Whereas when my Mum asked me if I had my slip on, she meant a polyester garment to be worn under your polyester blouse with your lined polyester skirt….. I’m in team Kate on this one. This dress is just so summery and available from Amber at Magpie & Fox.
Talking of 90’s renaissance All Saints are back too, minus the combat trousers (perhaps that’s next year)
Florals are a given every summer. An easy one for Anna and Karl to check off in their collective fashion Filofax. You can wear florals practically everywhere; the beach, a wedding, garden parties. Its a no-brainer. Although I was in a large department store recently and found the florals a bit overwhelmingly triffid-like. So unless your style guru is Lorraine Kelly, then go a bit easy. I loved this contemporary take on florals from Sharon and Katie at Bishop Philpott
(the cover photo is also from Bishop Philpott)
We’ve been loving Espadrilles for years. A peasant shoe since the 14th century until Yves Saint Laurent gave them a bit of va-va-voom in 1970 and gave them a nice chunky wedge. I imagine Karl getting a bit mardy and flicking his ash all over the place when Anna raves about Yves’ wedges. These, from Plum Boutique look like regular espadrilles but are leather which means that they will be a bit more hardwearing than canvas. What’s more, they’ve just been reduced by 30%. Hurrah!
Meanwhile, back in the amphitheatre we have Russell Crowe modelling Gladiator Sandals. Always popular during the summer and loads of styles to choose from, I love these from The Vor Store. Just remember to apply suncream to tour tootsies – absolutely NOTHING worse than sunburnt toes.
You can cut up a pair of jeans, or save yourself the bother and grab a pair of these at £29, again, from the Vor Store. Team them will the sandals and the swooshy suede Rabens Saloner top, and you’re officially ready for Summer 2016! Happy Days.
And before you know it, it will be Pre-Fall……..
