It’s been cold. Very cold. And rainy. Very rainy. But as the days lengthen and the little green things start popping up in the garden, we can start to think about going out without the essential 10 layers to keep the flu bugs away. Hands up for who can’t wait to sit outside in the sunshine with their morning coffee! Here’s a round up of what’s hot on planet fashion this season and where you can find said items in Truro.
We’ve been falling in and out of love with Slogan Tee’s ever since Katherine Hamnett used hers to send a very 80s anti-nuclear political message to Mrs T on the steps of Downing Street. Wham had one (Choose Life), Frankie told us to Relax and all of a sudden, slogans and messages were everywhere including those fake ‘camp’ sweatshirts. My late Father-in-law once asked if I really had taken part in the ‘Kansas Road Bike Trail 1984’. To be honest, it was easier to just smile and nod…
This year, as if we all need a bit of bonhomie and cheering up, the slogans are bright and breezy. This ‘Happy’ Tee from The Vor Store caught my eye, while I was browsing Instagram.
Stripes never get boring as far as I’m concerned, I could have a wardrobe full, and still find room for one more piece. I blame Coco Chanel for taking the humble sailor’s top, transforming it and turning into a classic that we can’t resist getting our hands on. Here’s a lovely combination of stripes and Cashmere from Cashmere 360 at Bishop Philpott. Stripey enough to satisfy my addiction but with a twist that makes it very ‘now’.
And then a stripey tee with a cheeky ruched Sleeve from Benetton in Truro. You can find Chris in Nalders Court and grab a coffee from Mid Town Deli upstairs at Benetton.
Flamingos A Go Go
If your addiction is less about stripes and more about our pink feathered friends, then Little Boutique has the perfect remedy with these cute as a button flamingo Tees. These impossible looking birds have been capturing the imagination of designers for a few years now and can be found on everything from clothes and accessories to homewares and stationary. The combination of hot pink and wading in tropical waters is a bit of a winner as far as I’m concerned – it’s definitely a ‘Go Flamingo’ from me!

Military/Olive green has become a fashion staple and could almost be considered a neutral colour. Perhaps it was ‘Hot Lips’ Houlihan in M*A*S*H who made us all fall in love with military-chic. You know if you’ve got a Military style jacket in your wardrobe, that it’s going to be a favourite every year. Same goes for this top from Dutch über-brand, Sandwich found in Plum Boutique. I’ve definitely got my beady eye on this and can imagine teaming it with white jeans and taking it out for lunch in the sun. I reckon Major Margaret Houlihan would approve. Dog Tags optional.
I don’t know how to say this. I’m not sure I even want to tell you. But Secret Truro has a secret. It’s called ‘Smart Exchanges’ a shop on New Bridge Street where you can find fashion treasures and tell your husband all about the money you saved on investment buys. Not only can you rummage through rails of colour co-ordinated clothes and find some right old bargains, you can also sell your old clothes through the shop. Pop in and find out all of the details. But to the person (people) who didn’t want their Burberry, Dior, Jaeger, Farhi and Austin Reed clothes. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart – you’ve saved me thousands!
