Hasn’t the weather this week has been wonderful? Apparently, we’re set for a great weekend and possibly the first ‘WOT A SCORCHER’ – type headline in the Daily Gossip. If there was ever a time to get out of doors and explore our beautiful countryside, then it is now. If you want a bit of company as you walk, then look no further than Walk Kernow. I contacted Kelly who set up her Nordic Walking company in 2012 and asked her all about the benefits of walking. The pictures on the Facebook page of wild garlic, bluebells and winding woodland paths, is enough to make me dust off my walking boots and sign up!
Nordic Walking sounds like the latest Scandi-noir box set. What actually is it?
Nordic Walking uses specially designed poles to enhance your natural walking experience. With a technique that is similar to the upper body action of classic cross-country skiing, Nordic Walking becomes a genuinely whole body exercise that can be enjoyed at many levels, from walking for health to athletic Nordic running. More than 10 million people globally enjoy this outdoor activity all year round.
Is it for anyone?
Most people can, the saying goes if you can walk you can Nordic Walk. At Walk Kernow we have Beginners Workshops and Nordic Walks to help make Nordic Walking as accessible to as many people as possible. We have Nordic Walkers who are in training to Nordic Walk Ultra Marathons and those who are using Nordic Walking to get out and about exercising in the beautiful Cornish Countryside. We have recently gone into partnership with Age UK Cornwall to provide Nordic Walking to those who are over 50 with a disability and we are now working to make these Nordic Walking Groups available all over Cornwall. Nordic Walking can give confidence and security to those not so steady on their feet so they can continue or get back to exercising too.
What if I’d like to give Nordic Walking a try?
We have lots of walks around Truro and a FREE Taster Session on Monday 16th May so you can come along and have a go. Please see the website to book to secure your space www.walkkernow.co.uk. If you would like to join our Age UK groups please email Kelly on firstname.lastname@example.org
