First day back at school – check. First day back at work – check. First blog of the Autumn – here we go! First up is a working lunch at Bustopher Jones in Lemon Street, Truro.
Bustopher Jones is a favourite venue in Truro and it’s been great to see it come back to life after an ‘iffy’ period a few years ago. We were invited to try out their lunch time offering and can report back that THIS REALLY WORKS as a working lunch!
The food was amazing. Freshly prepared, delicious and quickly served, which is just what you want if you are either on a lunch hour or meeting a client for a catch-up. All eyes are on the clock and eating at Bustophers is a really nice alternative to a sandwich and a packet of crisps.
What struck me though was the offering of cocktails. Back in the day, a working lunch meant starting with a G&T, ordering a couple of bottles of wine, writing the afternoon off and getting a signature at the end of the afternoon as you closed the deal (thus justifying the bottle of Chateau-quaffable-but-expensive).
Hello Seedlip, let me introduce myself….
Because drinking at lunch time is usually reserved for days when I can have a snooze afterwards, my choices are limited. I don’t want Coke, Lemonade or Fruit Juice, so I end up with boring old tap water. Cheap date right?
I was, therefore, pleasantly surprised. Nay! Over the moon to discover Seedlip distilled non-alcoholic spirits which are sugar-free. Hurrah!! So instead of a G&T, I had a Seedlip (Spice 94) with Fever Tree Tonic, Grapefruit and cinnamon.
At last an alternative to a glass of water (sparkling if I really fancy a change). This really was delicious and it didn’t feel as though I was missing out. Seedlip was featured in The Times over the summer – so it’s great to see it here in Truro.
Dinner was just right. Crayfish and Samphire Salad for me. The right amount of leaves and the saltiness of the samphire offset the crayfish perfectly. Mr Secret Truro chose the Soy and Ginger Roast Pork Belly (‘Good’, I thought, ‘saves me cooking tonight‘) The home made hummus and toasted focaccia was a lovely accompaniment to both dishes. I’d started sugar-free with the Seedlip, stayed healthy with the salad, so I passed on the pud. However, I did try a sample (would have been rude not to) of the strawberry cheesecake.
Thank you, Bustopher Jones! The perfect spot for a mid week lunch.
